For a low-mass singular isothermal sphere satellite on a circular orbit of radius D in a singular isothermal sphere host, Ω2=2σh2/D2 and Φh′′=−2σh2/D2. The radial differential effective acceleration is (Ω2−Φh′′)r. Balancing it with satellite gravity 2σd2/r gives the displayed Jacobi tidal radius and bound mass mt=2Dσd3/(Gσh). Equal mean density gives a different order-one approximation, rt=Dσd/σh; eccentric orbits require an orbital-history prescription.
