A figure-eight plane curve with two congruent lobes and a crossing at the origin. With scale a>0, its polar equation is r2=a2cos2θ. One quarter has coordinates x=at(1+t2)/2, y=at(1−t2)/2, 0≤t≤1. Differentiation gives arc element adt/1−t4. The total arc length is therefore 4a∫01dt/1−t4.
