With downward buoyancy b=gρ′/ρ0 in a uniform rotating Boussinesq approximation, q=ζ−fbz/N2 is time-independent. The linear pressure obeys ∇2ptt+f2pzz+N2∇H2p=ρ0fN2q. The initial potential vorticity supplies the steady pressure source; nonzero-frequency inertia-gravity waves have zero perturbation PV.
