For a spatially flat Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker metric, negative extrinsic curvature, and K=−3H+κ, the Hamiltonian constraint gives the displayed scalar perturbation equation. Indeed K2=9H2−6Hκ and KijKji=3H2−2Hκ to first order. The spatial Ricci scalar is 4ΔΦ; subtract the background equation 6H2=16πGρˉ and divide by four.
