An infinite solid cylinder with radius R, prescribed uniform volume charge density ρ, and angular velocity ωz^ has current density J=ρωrϕ^. Treat a shell at radius a and thickness da as a solenoid carrying surface current ρωada. With no applied background magnetic field and permeability μ,
B(r)={2μρω(R2−r2)z^,0,r<R,r>R.

The same result follows from Ampère's circuital law, since −dBz/dr=μρωr inside.
