Relative to $J=\left(\begin{array}{cc}0& I\\ -I& 0\end{array}\right)$, a symplectic Lie algebra matrix has blocks $\left(\begin{array}{cc}P& Q\\ R& -P^{\mathsf{T}}\end{array}\right)$ with $Q,R$ symmetric. Its diagonal Cartan subalgebra has basis $E_{ii}-E_{l+i,l+i}$. Write ${\epsilon }_i(h)={\lambda }_i$.
