Suppose xn,yn>0 and the displayed inequality holds with fixed λ>0. Then yn decreases to some l≥0. Telescoping shows ∑nmin(xn,yn)≤y1/λ. If l>0, this bounds ∑nmin(xn,l), contradicting clipping preserves divergence of a positive series when ∑nxn diverges. Thus divergence of the positive input series forces yn→0.
