In a category with finite limits and a subobject classifier, every monic endomorphism f of Ω is an involution. The subobject g:U↪Ω classified by f is subterminal, since fg=⊤!U is monic. If V↪U is classified by g, pullback uniqueness gives f⊤!U=g, hence f2g=g. If u classifies U↪1, the pullback of g along f is ⊤!U, so f2(p)=u∧p. Monicity implies u=⊤, because u∧u=u∧⊤, proving the displayed identity.
