For a metric action Sg=A∫−gf(R)d4x and the usual stress-energy tensor convention, covariant metric variation gives AEab=Tab/2, where Eab=f′Rab−fgab/2+(gab□−∇a∇b)f′. With A=1/(16πG) this becomes Eab=8πGTab; with A=1 it becomes Eab=Tab/2. The chosen normalization does not alter the vacuum equation.
