For L=(−1/R01−1/(4R)) and R>1, write ρ=x2/x1. The energy derivative is x12[−1/R+ρ−ρ2/(4R)], positive exactly between the displayed orientations. Linear trajectories cross the sector from ρ+ to ρ− because ρ˙=ρ[3/(4R)−ρ]. An energy-neutral rotational nonlinearity can reverse the crossing direction; the growth sector itself remains the same.
