The uniform paramagnetic three-dimensional electron-gas determinant is unstable within Hartree-Fock theory to a spin-density-wave deformation, even at high density. Comparing only spatially uniform polarized and unpolarized determinants therefore does not find the unrestricted Hartree-Fock ground state.[ref]
