For any zero-endpoint admissible u, use ∣sinu∣≤∣u∣ and the sharp Poincaré inequality on (0,1):
I(u)≥21∫01(u′)2−∫01u2≥(21−π21)∫01(u′)2≥0.
(1)
The coefficient is positive, and equality forces u′=0, hence u=0 by its endpoint values. Thus
u=0 is the unique strict global minimizer.
(2)
It is therefore both a strict strong and a strict weak local minimizer.
