Solution

The last elementary reaction creates two nitrogen dioxide molecules per event, so

\frac{d [ N O _{2} ]}{d t} = 2 k_{2} [NO] [ONOO]_{ss} = \frac{2 k _{1} k _{2} [ NO ] ^{2} [ O _{2} ]}{k _{- 1} + k _{2} [ NO ]} .

The factor of two is required for the production rate requested. The conventional reaction rate for

2NO + O_{2} \to 2N O_{2}

would be one half of this production rate.
