The supermartingale property and linearity of conditional expectation give, for n≥1,
Gn=E(Xn∣Fn−1)−Xn−1≤0.
(1)
Each Gn is integrable and Fn−1-measurable, while G0=0. Thus Zn is integrable and
Zn+1−Zn=Gn+1≤0.
(2)
Moreover, all terms Gj, j≤n+1, are Fn-measurable, so Zn+1∈mFn. This is predictability of the decreasing component in the Doob decomposition theorem.
