b
The k−1 coefficient of the first equation is μ1x+i[σ,μ2]=Qμ1. Substitution in the expression for B gives B=−2μ1x. Decompose μ1 into diagonal and off-diagonal parts. Since Q=i[σ,μ1], its off-diagonal part is iQσ/2. Thus
(μ1x)off=2iQxσ,(μ1x)diag=(Qμ1)diag=2iQ2σ.
(1)
The commutator in the k−1 equation has zero diagonal; multiplication of two off-diagonal two-by-two matrices is diagonal. Combining the two parts proves
A=2Q,B=−i(Q2+Qx)σ3.
