In spherical coordinates, z=rcosθ and x2+y2=r2sin2θ, so the elliptic paraboloid has equation
rcosθ=r2sin2θ.
(1)
Away from the origin this is r=cosθ/sin2θ, with 0<θ<π/2. The undivided equation also includes the origin, where angular coordinates are not unique.
