For the autoregressive process of order one, the formula at t=0 reads r0=r0, with an empty sum. If it holds at time t, substitution into the recursion gives
rt+1=β(βtr0+∑s=1tβt−sξs)+ξt+1=βt+1r0+∑s=1t+1βt+1−sξs.
(1)
Thus mathematical induction proves
rt=βtr0+s=1∑tβt−sξs.
(2)
No restriction such as ∣β∣<1 is needed for this finite-time identity.
