Under quota share reinsurance, SI=αS and SR=(1−α)S. Write v=Var(S)=λE[X2]. Then
Var(SI)+Var(SR)=v(α2+(1−α)2)=2v+2v(α−21)2.
(1)
The variance-minimizing quota share split is therefore
α∗=21,min{Var(SI)+Var(SR)}=2λE[X2].
(2)
For positive claims and λ>0 this minimizer is unique. If the aggregate has zero variance, every retained fraction gives the same zero objective.
