This plane curve is an Archimedean spiral. Put er=(cosu,sinu,0) and eθ=(−sinu,cosu,0), so er′=eθ and eθ′=−er. Then
x′=er+ueθ,x′′=2eθ−uer,∣x′∣2=1+u2,x′×x′′=(u2+2)ez.
(1)
Therefore the curvature of a plane curve is
κ(u)=(1+u2)3/2u2+2,u≥0.
(2)
The parametrization is regular even at u=0, where the curvature of a plane curve is 2.
