A martingale has uniform integrability when its entire family of time values has uniformly small integrable tails:
K→∞limn≥0supE[∣Xn∣1{∣Xn∣>K}]=0.
(1)
Here every Xn is an integrable random variable. This implies supnE∣Xn∣<∞, because the contribution from ∣Xn∣≤K is at most K. Mere boundedness of these expectations does not imply uniform integrability.
