Use the normalized eigenfunctions of the infinite square well,
ϕn(x)=a2sinanπx,En=2ma2n2π2ℏ2,0<x<a.
(1)
The sine identity expands the initial wavefunction as
ψ0=103ϕ1−ϕ3.
(2)
The normalization factor 4/5a yields precisely these coefficients. By the Born rule, the energy measurement probabilities are 9/10 for E1 and 1/10 for E3=9E1. Thus the energy expectation is
⟨E⟩=109E1+101E3=10ma29π2ℏ2.
(3)
The two probabilities sum to one, also checking the wavefunction normalization.
