The Bernoulli function for steady unmagnetized flow without gravity is
CB=2u2+h.
(1)
For a polytropic equation of state, h=cs2/(γ−1). Evaluation at the critical point found in part b gives
CB=2ccr2+γ−1ccr2=2(γ−1)γ+1ccr2.
(2)
Consequently
ccr2=γ+12(γ−1)CB.
(3)
Since CB is conserved along a streamline, that streamline has a unique critical speed.
