b
The Klein j-invariant
j(τ)=Δ(τ)E4(τ)3
(1)
is a weight-zero modular function for Γ(1), holomorphic on h and meromorphic at infinity. Let
γ=(acbd)∈Γ1(2).
(2)
Since c is even,
γ′=(ac/22bd)∈Γ(1),2γτ=γ′(2τ).
(3)
The modular invariance of j therefore gives
j(2γτ)j(γτ)=j(2τ)j(τ).
(4)
The quotient is meromorphic on h and at the cusps, so it is a weight-zero modular function of level Γ1(2). This is the Level-two modular ratio of Klein j-invariants.
