A Majorana zero mode is a normalized self-adjoint fermion operator localized near a boundary and commuting with the Hamiltonian. With open boundaries,
H0=it∑j=1M−1c2jc2j+1.
(1)
Neither c1 nor c2M appears. Each anticommutes with both factors in every displayed bilinear and consequently commutes with their product. Thus
[H0,c1]=[H0,c2M]=0,
(2)
and c1,c2M are Majorana zero modes localized exactly at the two end sites.
