For every primal feasible solution x, weak duality gives
cTx≤bTy∗=cTx∗.
(1)
Thus no primal feasible solution improves on x∗. Similarly, for every dual feasible solution y,
bTy≥cTx∗=bTy∗.
(2)
Therefore both candidates are optimal, with the same objective function value. Equality is a linear programming optimality certificate and does not require a separate existence argument.
