For ∣χ⟩=(caL†+eiχsaR†)N∣0⟩/N! with real c,s and c2+s2=1, one has ∣χ⟩=eiχnR∣0phase⟩. Differentiating E=⟨χ∣H∣χ⟩ gives ∂χE=i⟨[H,nR]⟩. If [H,nL+nR]=0, this equals −i⟨[H,nL]⟩. The Heisenberg equation of motion identifies the left-to-right particle current as J=∂χE/ℏ. Reversing the definition of the relative phase reverses this sign.
