The divergence of the vector field generating a flow on phase space. Its time integral determines the Jacobian determinant of the characteristic flow map: dlog∣detDΦt∣/dt=(∇z⋅b)(Φt,t). A Hamiltonian vector field has zero phase-space divergence in canonical coordinates.
