For fixed plates y=±h, no slip, viscosity μ0>0, yield stress τ0≥0 and G=−p,x>0, force balance gives shear stress −Gy. The central plug flow of a yield-stress fluid has half-width y0=τ0/G. If y0<h, the velocity is
u(y)=2μ0G[(h−y0)2−(∣y∣−y0)+2].
(1)
It is even in y; its derivative is (−Gy+τ0signy)/μ0 in the yielded layers and zero in the plug. If Gh≤τ0, there is no flow. Odd velocity is incompatible with this pressure-driven no-slip solution at nonzero flow.
