Polymer bridging occurs when one polymer chain attaches to more than one particle, producing an effective attraction or network connection. Surface affinity and incomplete coverage are essential to this mechanism. It should be distinguished from both steric stabilization by densely coated particles and the depletion force produced by nonadsorbing chains.
