For V1=∂x, V2=x∂x, and V3=x2∂x, direct application of their third prolongations gives
pr(3)V1(S)=0,pr(3)V2(S)=−2S,pr(3)V3(S)=−4xS.

Thus the Schwarzian is invariant under translation and has weight minus two under dilation; the third identity is its infinitesimal projective transformation law.
