For a film with fixed lower temperature T0 and upper condition −κTz=α(Ts−T0+ΔT), negligible horizontal thermal diffusion and thermal advection reduce the heat equation to Tzz=0. Thus T=T0−αΔTz/(κ+αh). The local approximation requires (h/L)2≪1 and Uh2/(κL)≪1, together with slow time variation relative to h2/κ. For αh/κ≪1, Ts≃T0−ΔTαh/κ. The coefficient κ is thermal diffusivity, and the boundary coefficient α is normalized accordingly.
