Let P be a monic polynomial of positive degree m≥1 with distinct roots of a polynomial rj. The partial fraction decomposition
P(z)1=∑j=1mP′(rj)(z−rj)1
(1)
follows by matching the simple pole residues; the difference is entire and vanishes at infinity. Comparing its expansion there gives ∑jrjℓ/P′(rj)=0 for 0≤ℓ<m−1 and ∑jrjm−1/P′(rj)=1. These identities give the continuity and derivative jumps needed for constant-coefficient Green functions.
