The relative topological K-theory product
Ki(X,A)⊗Kj(X,A)⟶Ki+j(X,A)
(1)
is induced by the reduced diagonal X/A→(X/A)∧(X/A). If X/A is a positive-dimensional sphere, this diagonal is null-homotopic, so the kernel of K0(X)→K0(A) is square-zero.
