A rotating roller with top speed U and gap d(x)=b+x2/(2a) drives a shear-free lubrication approximation flow. No slip below and zero shear above give u=U+px(y2−d2)/(2μ) and Q=Ud−d3px/(3μ). The pressure recovery condition in lubrication flow then gives Q=U∫d−2dx/∫d−3dx=4Ub/3. With s=x/2ab, the excess pressure is −μU2ab−3/2s/(1+s2)2. Gravity supports it through the small surface displacement h=(p−p0)/(ρg); the flat leading geometry is consistent when μ∣U∣a/(ρgb5/2)≪1.
