With reduced gravity b and settling velocity Vs, a mixed rectangular-channel current obeys Dh=−hux, Du=−bhx−hbx/2, Db=−Vsb/h, where D=∂t+u∂x. The characteristic speeds are u,u±c, with c2=bh. Along the latter curves,
du±hcdh±2chdb=∓2hVscdt.

The density differential matters: u±2c are Riemann invariants only when the reduced gravity is constant without deposition.
