With canonical field φ=ϕ/β, the quartic interaction has coupling −m2β2. Cancelling the vacuum tadpole diagram requires the divergent mass counterterm δm2=(m2β2/4)∫−ΛΛdk/[2πk2+1]. Its kink energy is ΔMct=4δm2/(mβ2) because ∫(1−cosϕK)dx=4. This cancels the logarithmic ultraviolet divergence in the one-loop soliton mass correction. Finite parts depend on the renormalization condition.
