The sinh-Gordon equation is an integrable nonlinear wave equation. Under the one-dimensional reduction u=u(x) with z=x+iy, it becomes
uxx=2sinh(2u).
(1)
Writing ϕ=2u gives ϕ′′=4sinhϕ and the first integral
21(ϕ′)2−4coshϕ=constant.
