For V=V0e−Aϕ/mpl, neglecting acceleration of the field and kinetic energy gives 3Hϕ˙=AV/mpl and H2=8πV/(3mpl2). Integration yields the displayed field with a∝(t+b)16π/A2. The exact flat scalar-dominated solution has the same power but C2=A4V0/[2mpl2(48π−A2)]. The two normalizations agree at leading slow-roll order. Inflation requires A2<16π; the stronger slow-roll conditions require A2/(8π)≪1.
