For At=−a(ϵx)Ax−ia(ϵx)2Axx, a downstream WKB approximation at fixed frequency Ω<1/4 has local wavenumber k=q/a. The next-order amplitude equation is (a−2a2k)BX=a2kXB, giving the stated envelope. For small Ω, it reduces to B∝a−Ω to first order in frequency. The approximation requires positive slowly varying width and separation from the double root at Ω=1/4.
