For a spherical buoyant thermal fed only through the moving top of a Boussinesq point-source plume, put λ=R/B and B=(6α/5)Z. Relative inflow πB2(wp−Z˙) and V˙=4πR2R˙ imply
wpZ˙=5+24αλ35.

The ratio of Froude numbers is 5/[λ(5+24αλ3)] when both use plume reduced gravity gp. Normalizing the thermal with its own gt=9gp/4 multiplies this by 2/3. These two definitions must not be interchanged when stating bounds.
