For an individual monochromatic component in c=c(Y), conserved ω,k give ℓ=ω2/c2−k2. With amplitude independent of X,T, wave-action transport for a variable-speed wave conserves c2ℓA2 on a positive-ℓ branch, hence A=μ/(cℓ). The divergence at ℓ=0 signals failure of the outer WKB approximation.
