For equal ring halves with potentials V0 and zero, the zero-current Thomas–Fermi bulk solution has μ=μ0+V0/2 and populations NL,R=N(1∓V0/2μ0)/2 while both halves are occupied. For V0>2μ0 the raised half is depleted and μ=2μ0 in this approximation.
