Sterile-release population threshold (Sc=α2/(4β))

For the population map f(N)=αN2/(βN2+S), extinction is a superstable fixed point. Below Sc, two positive fixed points N±=(α±α2−4βS)/(2β) exist. Their multipliers are 1∓α2−4βS/α, making the lower one a threshold and the upper one attracting. A saddle-node bifurcation removes them at Sc; above it f(N)<N for every positive population, so every nonnegative orbit tends to extinction.
