For distinct simple roots, αj−αi has mixed-sign simple-root coefficients and is not a root. Thus [fi,ej]=0. In the finite-dimensional adjoint representation of the simple-root SU(2) subalgebra, ej is a lowest-weight vector of weight aij. Standard SU(2) ladders force aij=−nij with nij≥0 integral and make (adei)nij+1ej=0.
