Heating a gas reservoir reduces its Bondi accretion rate because M˙B∝ρ∞cs−3. At fixed density, increasing the sound speed by ten reduces the rate by about a thousand and the gravitational capture radius by a hundred. Expansion and density loss can strengthen this negative feedback. Neither the density nor the cold pre-heating accretion rate is determined by the temperature change alone.
