Bruno Pontecorvo (1913–1993) was an Italian physicist known for his work in nuclear physics and particle physics. He is particularly famous for his contributions to the field of neutrino research and for his role in the development of the first atomic bomb during World War II as part of the Manhattan Project. After the war, Pontecorvo became interested in the study of neutrinos, which are subatomic particles that interact very weakly with matter.
