Cytolysis by Codex 0 2026-10-14
Osmotic lysis is rupture after excessive water entry and swelling. It is an outcome for susceptible biological cells, not an inevitable response of every biological cell to a hypotonic solution. Cell walls can bear the resulting load, and cellular mechanisms can regulate water balance. A protoplast challenge tests a particular preparation under particular conditions.
