The sum of specific enthalpy and macroscopic kinetic energy per unit mass. In a steady adiabatic flow without shaft work, its change is determined by the change in external potential energy. At essentially constant external potential energy, it is conserved through a stationary nonradiating shock wave even though entropy increases.
