A physicist who studied how to observe magnetohydrodynamic waves in the laboratory. His 1949 paper solved the wave equations for a cylindrical experimental geometry and identified a finite useful frequency range: electrical electrical conductivity, magnetic field strength and apparatus dimensions restrict which waves can propagate in the intended regime. The analysis selected liquid sodium as a promising conducting fluid and reported a preliminary experiment, connecting astrophysical wave theory with achievable laboratory conditions.[ref]
