A combinational logic circuit adding two input bits $a,b$ to a sum bit $s=a\oplus b$ and carry bit $c=a\wedge b$. An exclusive or gate and an AND gate implement it. The identity $a+b=(a\oplus b)+2(a\wedge b)$ follows by checking the four input pairs. A half adder has no input carry, so adding three equally weighted bits needs a different circuit or multiple stages.

A table of precomputed exact abstract goal distances used as an abstraction heuristic. Retaining a subset of the disks of a Tower of Hanoi instance gives a smaller abstract puzzle: moving an ignored disk does not change the abstract state, and moving a retained disk projects to a legal abstract move. Taking maxima of pattern database estimates preserves admissibility; summing them requires an additional cost-partition argument.

Let $\mathfrak{g}$ be a finite-dimensional Lie algebra over an algebraically closed field. If every operator $\mathrm{ad}(x)$ of the Adjoint representation of a Lie algebra is diagonalizable, then $\mathfrak{g}$ is abelian. For if $[x,y]=\lambda y$ with $\lambda \ne 0$, then $\mathrm{ad}(y)x=-\lambda y\ne 0$ but $(\mathrm{ad}y{)}^{2}x=0$. This contradicts $\ker T^2=\ker T$ for a diagonalizable endomorphism $T$. Therefore every adjoint operator has only the eigenvalue zero and is diagonalizable, so every adjoint operator is zero. Hence every Lie bracket vanishes.

The persist timer schedules repeated zero-window probes, preventing an exchange from waiting forever after a window-reopening message is lost.
